Flute lessons for children
Would you like your child to have fun while learning music?
Learn to play flute through a positive approach that leads to self confidence and autonomy?
Be taught with respect of her/his individual natural way of learning?
Develop other skills along the way that will last for life; like sensibility, attention span and memory?
Cristina Crespo is now running a new class for aspiring flautists at Hornsey Vale. Cristina teaches using the Suzuki Method. This method was created by Dr Shiichi Suzuki, with the prupose of raising children to be happy, confident, noble, fine human beings with spledid abiltiy. He used violin playing for that purpose and soon his way of teaching extended to other instruments, including the flute. His philosophy is based on the idea that - provided with the right environment and tuition - all children can aquire and develop high musical ability.
The main principles of this way of learing are: Early start (from 3 years and up); Performance opportunities and Intensive listening (the mother tongue approach - as with language, children learn initially by copying the sounds they hear and repeating them over and over - thus developing long tem memory skills. Rote learning is therefore, well established before music reading is introduced).
As well as individual lessons, children benefit from group lessons where they develop their musicianship, ensemble skills, memory and concentration with the added motivation brought about by social interaction.
Cristina has extensive international performing and teaching experience. Having taught students of all ages, she now focuses on teaching young children in the Suzuki way.
She completed a 6 year music teaching degree specialising in flute and the Professional Conservatoire in Valencia. In addition she completed a four year degree in Drama and holds a further teaching certificate specialising in secondary school teaching, both from the University of Valencia.
She is a highly creative individual interested in communication, human development, the exploration of life skills through metaphone and the pleasure of sharing. Alongside her teaching she currently works with Experience Vocal Dance Company as a freelance performer.
Classes on Tuesday from 5-6pm
